Welcome to our open scholarship portal where you will find information on our transition to open scholarship including our Read & Publish scheme.
The Biochemical Society and Portland Press are transitioning towards open access (OA). To support and accelerate this transition to OA, we are offering pilot deals to several hundred institutional subscribers through Read & Publish alternatives to regular subscriptions (i.e., transformative renewals) facing individual institutions and via ‘transformative’ agreements signed with consortia.
Open data forms one of the key tenets of our ongoing transition to open scholarship. We support the principles that research data should be findable, accessible, interoperable and reusable (FAIR). We’re committed to working collaboratively across the molecular bioscience community, making data available in a way that best supports the understanding and advancement of future research.
Marking the first step to transitioning publishing models, we’re excited to have launched a pilot transformative offering for ̴700 global subscribers. Active from 2020, our optional ‘Read & Publish’ renewal initiates a route to full open access publishing, providing an inbuilt solution to the burden of transacting individual article publishing charges.
The Biochemical Society and Portland Press support open scholarship, the name given to a change in the culture of scholarly research, enabled by developing technologies and new opportunities for communication and collaboration, and encompassing topics such as open access, open data, metrics, research integrity, and public engagement.
