‘Battle to Breathe’ is an interactive workshop in which pupils work with current biomedical researchers to learn how the lungs battle the daily onslaught of bacteria, pollution and other allergens to keep us breathing easy. By means of rotation through a series of workstations, pupils explore the location and function of the lungs, the role of cilia and mucus in keeping the airways clean and even use paint to estimate their own lung volume.
