Let's be honest, sugar gets a bad press. We all know the perils of slurping too many fizzy drinks; if we're lucky perhaps we'll escape with minor tooth decay, but overindulge and there's a frightening list of chronic metabolic diseases to consider, with diabetes just for starters. Now I'm not here to argue that excessive sugar consumption isn't a dangerous pastime, overeating anything probably isn't a good idea. But before you throw that delicious iced bun away just pause for a moment and read on; could it be possible that sugar isn't quite as evil as we're made to believe?
