The cover of this edition of Bioscience Reports The cover features a cutaway image showing a central reaction centre (RC) complex partly surrounded by a curved array of light-harvesting 1 (LH1) subunits, embedded in a membrane bilayer. Light is absorbed by LH1 bacteriochlorophylls and the energy is transferred to the RC, eliciting a series of electron transfers and finally the production of quinols, shown here in yellow. Quinols exit the RC-LH1 complex through a gap in the LH1 ring, and diffuse to the nearby cytochrome bc1 complex.
