1. The pathogenesis and complications occurring in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) have been studied.
2. Genetic factors are important both in the development of hypertension and in determining susceptibility to vascular lesions.
3. Selective substrains of SHR may be particularly prone to develop cerebrovascular lesions.
