1. HeLa cells from human cervix and L cells from mouse fibroblasts were cultured in the presence and absence of ethanol.
2. Ethanol produced an increase in the sodium-plus-potassium-ion-stimulated adenosine triphosphatase (Na-ATPase).
3. This effect was inhibited by cycloheximide.
4. Ethanol did not change the Na-ATPase content of mouse L cells.
