1. Total body potassium was measured, by whole-body counting, in children with coeliac disease and in children not having this disease, matched as closely as possible with respect to sex, height, weight and age.
2. The measured total body potassium in children with coeliac disease was not significantly different from that in the matched children.
3. The problems associated with such measurements, particularly those of interpretation, are considered.
