1. The safety of a carbon haemoperfusion column, Haemocol, has been studied in beagle dogs.

2. Only minor changes in physiology, haematology and plasma chemistry were detected, except those associated with an improvement in clinical status.

3. It is concluded that haemoperfusion through this column is a safe and simple procedure, which merits evaluation in the treatment of severe drug overdose in man.
