Spencer (Clinical Science 1980, 58, 161-164) , where a correlation was found in women between erythrocyte carbonic anhydrase I concentration (RBC HCAI) and the progesterone peak during the menstrual cycle as well as a rise in RBC HCAI during pregnancy.
