1. Whole-blood lactate levels were measured at different rates of haemofiltration in 10 patients with acute renal failure undergoing conventional continuous haemofiltration using lactate-buffered replacement fluid.
2. The results enable both basal production rates and the metabolic clearance of lactate to be estimated in man.
