In the latest issue of Clinical Science (volume 133, issue 5), Souza-Neto et al. demonstrate that alamandine treatment attenuates aortic remodeling induced by transverse aortic constriction (TAC) surgery in mice. In this cover image, the expression of matrix metalloproteinase-2 (MMP-2) (red) is visualised by immunofluorescence in mouse aorta submitted to TAC (captured at 20x magnification). The autofluorescence of the elastic fibers can be seen in green, and nuclei in blue. MMP-2 is an important component of the pathophysiological mechanisms of vascular fibrosis in pressure overload conditions. Alamandine attenuates MMP-2 expression and other profibrotic markers in mice aorta.
