Towards systems biochemistry

Guest edited by Professor Stanislav Y. Shvartsman and Professor Kazuhiro Aoki

Systems Biology has opened new frontiers in the life sciences, investigating multilayers of biological complexity in governing gene regulatory networks, metabolic pathways, and cell signaling. Furthermore, emerging technologies such as next-generation sequencing, CRISPR/Cas9-mediated genome editing, and deep-learning have allowed the collection of data more deeply, comprehensively, and quantitatively. However, we are still far from a sufficient understanding of regulatory mechanisms underlying complicated cellular and multicellular behaviours as a system.

This Biochemical Journal collection, Towards Systems Biochemistry, comprises review articles and research papers providing a systems understanding of regulatory mechanisms in molecular and cellular biology, including gene regulatory networks, metabolic pathways and cell signalling.

We would like to thank all the authors for their excellent contributions, and we hope you enjoy reading this special collection.
