Standard services
We continually review our end-to-end publishing processes, workflows, and integrated technologies to ensure that readers, authors, reviewers, and librarians alike are getting the most out of our content and services.
Institutional subscribers are the backbone of the scholarly publishing ecosystem, and we rely on your support to continue to produce world-class research. Please do email us if you have any queries, and consider completing this short survey to rate us on our services.
COUNTER reporting
Portland Press provides usage statistics that are compliant with the COUNTER Code of Practice, Release 5 which you can read in full on the COUNTER website. Alternatively, you can try the Friendly Guide to Release 5 for Librarians which has been produced.
COUNTER 5 usage statistics are available for all journals. Please visit the Institutional Administrator Dashboard to check your usage.
Note: for usage statistics to display together, the institutional administrator email address used for Portland Press subscriptions must match the institutional administrator email address used for other publishers.
Performance and usage statistics
Performance statistics, including our median turnaround times, Impact Factors and article views, are provided at individual journal level under ‘Impact and Information’ and are displayed on each journal homepage.
Article metrics, including citation and Altmetric counts, page views and downloads, are displayed in the top-right corner of an article page.
Read & Publish services
We offer additional support and services for institutional customers who have a Read & Publish (R&P) agreement to help manage and track publication output, to provide communication and support for researchers and, where appropriate, to enable reporting at consortia level.
Streamlined editorial workflow
Our automated workflows and processes relieve our researchers of any administrative burden so that their time is freed up to do more science.
Institutional details supplied by the corresponding author at the submission stage enable us to match them to a R&P institution and route their manuscripts for immediate and fee-free OA on publication with the appropriate CC BY licence. Their manuscript details will automatically be provided to the administrator responsible for OA agreements at their institution.
Open access publishing reporting services
Upon entering a R&P agreement with us, you will be set up with an Agreement Manager profile and login details, unless you already have one. Through the Agreement Manager portal you can set your approval preferences. As our R&P agreements cover unlimited publishing, we recommend you opt for ‘automatic’ approval in order to avoid any publication delays. You will then be able to see all manuscripts with a corresponding author at your institution that have been accepted for publication in one of our journals ahead of publication.
The OA Switchboard is an independent intermediary that provides shared infrastructure, rooted in publishing standards and persistent metadata. It delivers real-time standardised messaging and alerts to institutions when articles relevant to their OA funds or transformative agreements are published. The Switchboard provides a hub for all participating publishers to report centrally to institutions on OA fund requests. Coordinated OA reporting helps institutions with management and monitoring of OA funds, tracking compliance of OA policies, and reducing administrative complexity through a single consistent view.
We recommend that you sign up to OA Switchboard. Further information on the Switchboard can be found on their website.
Full-text articles will be deposited automatically into UK institutional repositories via a live feed into Jisc’s Publications Router service. If the corresponding author is affiliated to a Jisc consortium member that has a R&P deal with us, the metadata, full text (VoR) as PDF and XML, and any additional files associated with their gold open access (OA) article (e.g., illustrations, videos) will be automatically deposited after publication with no embargo. At present this is a benefit for UK customers only, but we are seeking out similar services globally.
